Thanks for your reply. I actually got a 2 door backseat for free, since posting my original question. The seat fits perfectly between the wheel wells. I have not mounted the seat yet because I need to figure out the seatbelt situation for the third row. It's not going to work for me unless it has a shoulder belt.
Also take a look at my install & you can see how they mounted the shoulder belts. You should be able to do something similar with aftermarket belts.
I've had the third row seat for almost 3 years now. We Love it. We were the first people in Illinois to get one.
Bought it from Little Seats (littleseats.com). DOT approved. It has 2 shoulder belts and 1 center lapbelt.
My wife was concerned about rear impact and rollover accidents. She told me to find a solution.
First. I have the seats rear facing. This puts the rollbar over the kids heads.
Second. I had a local welder install a large gauge rollbar just inside the tubline. It lays just inside the space between removable top and the body. It is "U" shaped and attaches to the base of the factory rollbars. Now the kids are more protected from rear impact.
Third. I junked the factory rear bumper and replaced it with a LOD 2nd Gen with tire carrier. Not only is this bumper a massive peice of metal, but the tire carrier swingout is solid. If we get rearended anywhere back there the tirecarrrier/wheel will send the force of the impact to the roll bar (high bumper hit), or to the massive bumper itself (low/regular bumper hit).
My wife is happy with the results. Our friends have no hesitation about letting their kids sit there. It "feels" safe.
However, we all know that third row seat is a bad place to be when a Semi plows into your rear, no matter what vehicle you're in (except maybe another Semi?).

Hi guys... I have been pondering a similar situation, with a twist. Has anyone tried to reconfigure their roll cage with the rear arms of a two door cage on a four door cage? I wanted to mount a 2 door seat slightly back from where the four door rear seat sets now. It would give the second seat tons of leg room, and still have a roll cage over their head... Anyone seen done before?
I have the rear facing little seats so that the kids are protected from by the rollover, but I'd like to learn more about this rear-end protection. Right now, we only use the rear seats in town on the low speed roads. Doesn't mean some nut won't come flying down the road and rear end you though.
