Gotta agree with you there. I do like the idea of a solid rear bumper though.

When you consider most JKs are higher than other vehicles and that one rear ending you will probably be slamming on there brakes (nose diving); then the odds are a nice solid rear bumper will land smack in the middle of there radiator. If it's something like an Accord or smaller they might simply take out your rear axle.

In college that happened to a friends truck. No damage to the tailgate, but the rear axle got knocked off the springs.

If you are worried about safety, have you checked the JK's side crash rating? You won't find it as it has not been side crash tested. It has received 5* each for driver and passenger front crash ratings.

I"m more concerned with being broad sided with the doors off.

Actually it has been side crash tested... it failed with flying colors:

Jeeps aren't built specifically to be safe, so be careful out there in your JK's. Look both ways before you cross an intersection, even if the light is green.

Just to illustarte, here's a picture of an accident that happened in front of my office yesterday morning. The guy walked away without a scratch because the crush zone worked on his honda van. His van is DESIGNED for 3rd seat passengers and if he would have had any, they would have been killed. Just imagine how bad it would be if it wasn't even designed for it.

but off ranting, those seats do appear to match well and fit the space nicely.

Good point, but just put the least fav kids in the back... jk

Looked to me that the 4d held up nicely in front crash testing, and side impact..however they didn't test one with side airbags......
