Make Your Own Water-Proof Floor Liner
I wanted to have a waterproof, form -fitting liner that has insulating and sound deadening qualities , for very little $.
Yes, I have bedlined Jeep interiors , CJs, YJs. The JK tub has wiring harness, insulation under the carpet that I prefer to keep covered.
The BedTred is excellent, but pricey to me, and apparently interferes with rear storage cubby hatch.
So I was thinking, would it be feasible to use a low viscosity bedliner coating ON the carpet ? I'm thinking the liquid would seal the short-nap carpet, and cure to a water-proof flexible coating. The carpet tucks under rail edges, I would tape a 3/4" section so the carpet edge could be pulled out for removal.
My main reason is to make a easy to clean dog hair mud resistant surface. Having the Jeep sit out in rain not likely .
The rear storage cover might make a good surface to try this.
Any thoughts on the feasibility , anyone been there and done that ?
Using what Ive got to get what I want has a certain appeal . The $ saved can go toward 32s.
Feel free to chime in !

I think the viscosity of the coating is key; not so thin it saturates through the carpet to the floor ; not so thick it doesn't flow for a fairly smooth surface. Can't be too aggressive a bonding agent that might disintegrate the carpet backing.
A "Goldilocks " coating. A warm day, top off , all taped up, can't wait to try ! Like I said last post, I'll do storage lid first , see if this is a " Better Idea " or a "Uh O" .

I was think something similar. I wanted to put the liner like they have in pick up trucks. I bought some black vinyl floor runners 2-3x5 long enough for pass and driver siders. It's thin and flexible and I bought some high strength tape. I'm gonna try it and a heat gun and see what I come up with

Sounds like a good idea
