Moved 1000 Pound Safe Into Basement Using Jeep
I recently moved a big safe into a basement using my Jeep and without any lifting by hand. The safe was placed into my truck bed by Cabelas employees. When I got home I backed the truck up to the patio and began rigging.
I put two ratcheting straps around the safe. I put a tow strap around the corner of my house with a shackle at the end. Then I pulled up my Jeep and let the winch cable go to the shackle and then to the safe.
We then gently pulled some line in until the safe was teetering off of the tail gate of the truck. At that point we placed moving dollys on the ground and proceeded to tip the safe onto them.
Once on, we drew more line in using the winch. That essentially pulled the safe across the patio to the Bilko doors.
We lined the steps with flat boards and slowly drew more line in. This began to pull the safe over the steps. When it got more than 50% over them it was time to let line out. Letting line out now dropped the front of the safe onto the flat boards covering the steps. Enough line was let out until the bottom of the safe was on the bottom of the cellar floor.
At that time we placed the safe back onto the moving dollys and wheeled it into position. Then we used a floor jack and a deer hoist to lift it into the upright position.
Done. No one got hurt or broke a sweat.
