Default My cb radio mount

I got the idea from another forum member, but because I have the freedom top, I had to make some minor adjustments, and I wanted more space for add-ons later.

I started with two 10' sections of superstrut. Located in either lowes or Home depot near the wiring and electrical junction boxes. My local stores had them in aisle 11 (lowes) and 40 (home Depot). I cut them to the following lengths: 44-3/8", 40" and two at 19".

I got four 3 hole flat corners, four 4 hole flat straight brackets, and 20 each of the following: 1/4" cone nuts, 1/4"-20 x 1" hex head bolts, and 5/16" x 1-1/2" flat washers.

Picked up a can of Rustoleum matte black spray paint.

I didn't document it step by step, but you get the idea from the pictures. All cuts were made with a sawz-all. Filed edges to remove burrs/ sharp edges. Attached with 75# zip ties at the corners of the longer brackets for now, until I come up with a better way to secure them.

Not going to lie. That looks badass! If I hadn't already mounted mine, I would have done this!

Thanks! Took several trips to the stores since my original idea changed a few times, but this is what I settled on.... for now. It could use some tweeking, but I'm happy with it.

This looks great! Its also seems to be the perfect solution to what I am looking for. Wanted to add some extra storage space above but the only thing on the market is the Smittybilt G.E.A.R. Overhead Console. Can't use that since I have my switches mounted between the sunvisors. This would definitely solve it.

As for attaching it to the Jeep, would it be possible to add flat plates to the end of the longer runners and drill a couple bolt holes into the frame tubing? Similar to how the door surrounds attach.

Also added it to the mods list as its not a pricey mod by the looks of it.

Here's an idea for mounting to the roll bars. Not sure what diameter would be needed. Click image for larger version

Thanks for the compliment and for adding this to the list of low cost mods, Vladimer. I'm sure you could drill holes in the four hole brackets to secure the mount to the roll bar near the windshield. As for the back, I'll have to look into that. I looked into the G.E.A.R. overhead mount and the Tuffy box as well, but with the sPod and having a freedom top, it just wouldn't work. Which is why I made this. I had no issues removing/ installing the freedom top with this setup. I think the overall price was around $50, but I honestly don't remember.

That's a good idea Broncorif. I'll look into this over the weekend and see what I can come up with. My initial guess is somewhere around 2 - 2-1/2" in diameter. I'll post it here as a follow up and/ or the low cost mod section.

Thanks. Pretty easy to do. Only took about an hour outside of letting the paint fully dry.

Can you post a few photos from beneath the mount?

This is the only one I have right now. If there is something specific you want to see, let me know. I'll try to get more tonight.
