Thanks, it took more work than I had planned but it was worth it.

Yeah, that is my biggest question, is how long it will stay up. So far the freedom tops are holding, a week thus.

With the material I used, it would not be hard to do the side of the hard top. The hardest part would be making the edges look good/consistent when putting the liner on the insulated sheeting. This would also reduce the echo even more, and make the radio sound better...

That looks great man... I have been planning on just bedlining the inside of the hard top at some point this summer while I have the soft top on (the white looks horrible and I dont know what they were thinking). But after seeing how well yours turned out I think I might have to insulate it while I am at it and see if it will help during the cold winters too.

Thanks! I was really surprised at how much of a difference one layer of insulation made. After I did the rest of the hard top (the two rear sections) I did not have a good way to measure raw temperature differences. So, I just measured the freedom tops against the hard top( 1 layer of insulation vs. 2) and found an additional 7 degrees of cooling over the single layer. Granted it only got up to 98 today with overcast skies....

I am amazed at the difference this makes, and am happy though tired, that I did it

For the OP:

Do you have Sirius? If you do did it effect the reception at all?

All of these hardtop insulation ideas are great! I'm trying to learn as much as possible before tackling it.

Thanks!

Howdy,

Yes I do have Sirius, and yes it did block the reception But not to worry, you can go get a Sirius car install kit for the external antenna and route it to wherever you want. I installed mine on my hood in line with the washer sprayer. Better reception than the stock location.

Looks great! You could also do the sides of the hard top around the windows as well as the rear corners.

I had made up some proto types in the past to bring to market. Once I realized how easy it was to make them yourself for cheap I backed off the project.
I'd be interested how they stay up in the future or whether they sag or fall down.

Me too, I'll keep this thread updated. I think we are in store for a long hot Texas summer this year. Have set record 100s for two weeks and I see more coming.

Dang, the Sirius things a setback. I wondered about that when I saw the reflective aluminum foil type material on there. Wonder if I could make an area over the antenna that's not covered by that, but maybe by some foam padding instead to keep the texture the same.
