Great job! I did something a lot like that for my TJ and will definitely do it on the other side of the garage for my JK too. The only thing I would recommend you doing differently is adding a 2x4 for the rear of the hard top to sit on. Without it, your top will run the risk of pulling apart. After some time, this will make it difficult to install on your Jeep...

have any of you guys thought about making a simple harness and attatching it to one of the HF electric winches? You can find them around $40 or $50 at times on sale.

Will these straps work for this?
I think I got what I need for trying this system this weekend, but just want some input on whether these straps are sufficient to hold my 4 door hardtop. What do ya'll think?

I use a similar set to lift the top (4dr) off, but I can't get it high enough for summer storage. Once its up I hang a shelf under it and lift the chains at each corner a couple links at a time. A little grunt work but cheap and secure. Leave the straps for insurace and so can lower back on come winter.

I've yet to build my hardtop hoist since its still pretty cool in Jersey, and considering I just bought my jeep, but those should work fine. They say they are good for 300lbs although the rating could be off, you'll be supporting the tops ~130lbs on 4 straps so the load is divided.

I think you will want the straps that just pull instead of the ratchet style. With the ratchet style you will be limited on how high you can lift it, unless you only wanna raise a few inches and drive out from under it.

Done
Tried this out last night. Worked great. I ended up getting beefier straps, not that I needed them, but it gives me peace of mind. I only made one deviation from what I've seen on this thread. I added a 2x4 to go across the front part of the top just like the rear. This way I can lean it forward while it's hanging just a little to help prevent it from sliding back. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic, but it was late last night and I was tired.
