Default Need help with Alternator install

I recently purchased a custom-made alternator from singer alternators for my 2015 JKU sport.

I am attempting the installation and have never done this before but understand how to do it on a conceptual level. I have found instructional videos on installations for other vehicles as well as older Jeep Wrangler's but cannot find anything on the 2012 and up models.

Additionally, I cannot find any manuals or information as to where the tensioner pulley is. I have tried loosening and tightening all of the bolts along the serpentine belt as well as the alternator itself without any luck.

Can anybody help?

Typically serpentine belt tensioners will have a square 3/8" socket drive hole in the front to relieve the tension on the belt so you can slip it off over the idler pulley.

The spring in those suckers is strong so watch you fingers. And don't forget to snap a picture of the belt orientation BEFORE you remove it. Figuring it out afterward sucks.

I've replaced the water pump and belt tensioner on a 3.8L JK but haven't looked at the one on my 12 yet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJfylSAQIX4 Ok, I stand corrected. The 12 up 3.6L JK belt tensioner is not like anything I've ever seen.

Bizarre might be the best description.

Breaker bar to compress high pressure gas strut and a helper to remove the belt. Strange indeed.

Good luck. let us know if it works.

Thanks Lost! I use a 250lb rated torque wrench to pry it out of position and then a small 2x4 to hold it in that position while I switched alternators. It took a ton of force to do this.

Ok,
So I got the new alternator in and everything is back together but now I have this horrible squeal. I read several threads that suggest this is the water pump, idler pulley, gunked up serpentine belt, or bad bearings.

Here are the specifics:

--My JKU only has 1,100 miles on it.
-- This sound only happens at low speed in first (backing out of a space, pulling out from a stop).
--This ONLY happens when I turn the wheel left or right while moving.
--The sound is not present while sitting at idle.
--The sound is not present while driving 5mph+

Before I figured out how to move the tensioner pulley, I did play with the bolts on all of the pulleys. Could I have tightened one of them too much?

Please help?!
