Newbie Hardtop Removal Question
Just purchased my first Jeep.
2010 Wrangler Unlimited Sport with Dual Tops.
Have been lurking in the background for a week or so gathering all kinds of fabulous information about everything Jeep.
To gain some extra room in the back for the winter months I am looking to remove the factory installed soft top that was folded down in place when Dealer installed HT.
Through my own observation and reading many posts on the subject here I realize it is going to probably be easier to remove the top to remove it.
My question is, when looking at the torque screws that hold the top to the body there are six that are identical to the ones I will be removing when taking the bowes off the roll cage. The two screws closest to the back seats are not like these at all they almost look like they are some sort of stud that can be used for alignment when replacing the top. Do these actually get removed? or are they just that something to use as an aide to help in replacing the top. If they do have to be removed is there a special tool needed. As I said they look nothing like the torque screws for which I have the proper tool to remove.
Any help would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks

Just take the 6 torx out and lift the top off! Oh and disconnect the rear wiper and washer fluid hose on the drivers side rear by the roll bar! Those little "posts" are just there to help you line up the top when putting it bsck on.
Yep those pins don't come out and are to help align the top when you put it back on. There are holes in the body that these fit into. Don't forget there are two more screws one on each side at the front leading edge. You'll see them when removing the freedom panels. Be sure and get someone to help. Not heavy just awkward. My wife helps me remove mine.
Did the dealership explain to you that the soft top was only installed with the hard top on for shipping purposes, and that you are supposed to remove one of the tops? Driving around with the soft top installed will cause it to rub and wear against the hardtop.
Jeep was on lot as ST, wheeled and dealed to get HT for additional $600.
Foolish me. Actually thought that they would remove it completley. Oh well gives me a chance to see how things work.

Make sure you have some good help. I managed to scratch the paint taking mine off the first time. I think they make a clear bra material that goes down on the paint after you take it off. I would recommend it!
