Default Painted Hardtop?

Has anyone painted the exterior of their hardtop? I just bought a used one but it has a couple of scratches, all the way down to the white fiberglass shell. I know I can take it to a body shop and have them do it but thought I'd check with members of the forum to see if anyone has done it themselves. If you did what type of paint did you use? I'm want that same textured look that comes with it from factory. Have any pics?

Thanks

A friend of mine did his. He roughed it up with a scotchbrite pad and painted it hammered black. It turned out great.

I wish you had pics of this it sounds like a great idea. I can't stand the way it scratches so easily.

I just did this the other day.... I used a scuffy pad to obviously scuff up the paint in order for it to bond correctly and not flake off later and then wiped her down with 3m prep solvent to remove any particles and what not... Then i hosed her down with dupli color bed liner coating... get the roll on kind and it will come out mint... and it has a nice rough surface that is sure to prevent easy scratches from wheelin. Comes in black and looks awesome and dries quickly.
