Default Painted Ring in Console to Match Bar

Ok so this I guess is kind of a warning to all those that want to paint the ring around your gear shift. So this past weekend I was looking at the console bar that I made in my JK ( ) and well I thought it kind of looked out of place being that was the only thing painted on my console. So I thought “what the hell, I’ll just paint the gear shift ring to match” which as most my projects became more hassle than it’s worth…. Or maybe not cause I think it looks pretty good for a mess up? Anyway, I pulled the ring off which unclips from the console, but what does not unclip is the 2 rings that hold the boot into place. So not knowing this I broke them apart. Yeah so it was off, so I was like well I guess I’ll paint it and just glue it back on. Yeah about that…. So I have found that not many glues will stick rubber and plastic together that well and the ones that do are very messy. After trying all kinds and cleaning up after every time I said ok we’re going to do this the old fashion way. I drilled out where the “look alike” bolts are on the ring and went to Home Depot and bought some nicer looking nuts and bolts and put them through all 3 pieces making it look all nice and pretty. Over all I’m now thinking it looks pretty good, but I wanted to write this, just in case you wanted to do this as well, you could just start with the nuts and bolt way. Trust me it’s soooooooo much easier and less messy than glue. My next step is to paint the bolts. I’m thinking black or a different color other than the color of the ring. So here is the somewhat finished product. I’ll post more pics when I get the bolts painted.

huh? I thought a write up is where you "write up" how you did something?... I think that's what I did. maybe we should call them "read ups" for folks like you?
