Default Passenger side visor mirror mod

Ok, so i know every wrangler built has never had a mirror on the passenger side visor, and for a long time i refused to put one in my TJ, but anytime a girl would ride in the jeep she'd complain there is no mirror, and one day when theres a wife, she might find it useful... anyway, heres the write up

First remove the two screws that hold up the passenger side mirror.. it can be done without removing it, but it was hot out today and easier to work by the fan than in the passenger seat. heres a pic of the mirror mounting bracket, you can see the screws that need to come out.

next, obtain a mirror, i baught this one at drug mart for a couple bucks, i used the same on when i did this to my TJ and it worked well, its large, and made of real glass so it gives a clear reflection.

then i pealed the casing apart so that i could get the mirror all by itself

Then i used some of this door molding stuff to trim out the glass for a clean non-sharp edge.

Then i added some all weather 5lb double sided adhesive to the back side of the mirror. This stuff works great by the way. most of the white foam double sided adhesive has let me down, but i've never had any trouble with this all weather 5 lb grey stuff.

then i stuck it to the visor where i wanted it and installed it back in the jeep.

In thinking about it, i could have left the orignal black plastic border on the mirror and just stuck the whole thing to the visor, but i thought it was too chincy/generic looking for the jeep. plus my initial idea was to take the visor apart and mount the mirror on the inside, while cutting a whole in the visor for it to show through, but it was looking like the visors are made to stay together as one piece forever. So i went this route. Good Luck if you try it. I'm happy with it, even though i'll never use that mirror myself as i'm always the one in the driver seat, but i know my lady passengers will appreciate it.

LOL, certainly that wouldn't be good. But this tape is honestly good stuff... i don't remember the maker of it, but its wasn't 3m,,, that much i remember. Anyway, i did the exact thing on my TJ and it held up for a long time, then i sold it and as far as i know, its still in place. The tape actually held so well when i first stuck it on, that i can't even pry it off... at least not without breaking the mirror. So i'm not worried any. After all, the mirror only weighs a few ounces and the tape is guarenteed to hold five pounds of weight... useing 4 inches of tape for every pound, i have at least 12 inches of tape and less than one twelveth (1/12) a lb,... lol, it better not fall off.

Anybody ever start typing something then think, ya know what ... never mind, then delete it. That's what I did but forgot to delete it.
If you ever get lost you can put the top down and signal airplanes. ... J/K
looks like a lot of work, i hope she appreciates it.
I'd tell her if she wants to check her hair to put the window down and use the mirror out there ... hmm, maybe that's why i'm single.

LOL, it only took about ten or fifteen minutes. If i would have left the plastic border on the mirror and just stuck it on it would have taken 3 minutes. So its not bad. The other thing i liked about it, was that i can adjust the visor just right and see into the back seat in the mirror... might come in handy down the road after i get that wife i mentioned and we have some little Jeepers running around... and i know all my lady passengers really appreciated it in the TJ, so i imagine they'll like it here too.

Heck, this could be another way to fix the legality of doors off. Mount a mirror to the drivers side that when you flip it to the side you can see behind you. It will go sort of under the rollbar, so it would technically be outside.
Nah. Good work on yours though.

Mine already did!

I asked her what modification she would want? I was wandering through wallyworld looking at those clip on mirrors trying to find one with elastic instead of thos spring clips....

She said "I want one with lights"

i handed her the clip on one, and a package of tailamp bulbs that was hanging there.

she wasnt impressed.

You should have given her one of those hands free LED flashlights that you wear like a visor. It would have reflected in the mirror back to the face! And it could be used if she has to change a tire in the dark.
