Default PVC hardtop lift

Im am thinking about building a hard top lift ou of pvc.The pictures are a rough idea of what I want to build. Any input would be helpful.

It could probably be done, but you'd have to use larger pipe than what you have pictured there. I'd say 1 1/2" minimum. Then again, by the time you buy pipe, fittings, glue, primer, rope, and all the hardware for the hoist, you'll probably have spent more than you would have to just buy kit.

I would use 3" pvc to build the frame. I like the lifts better but I am not sure I want to try to attach it to the ceiling of my garage. If I had exposed rafters I would go that route. I don't want to take a chance of hitting the edge of a rafter and having the top falling.

Why not square tube steel? I made my t-bar for my harbor freight electric hoist for about $30. It's all bolted together using t brackets

I used 3/4" black iron pipe and screwed it together with a Tee and three end caps. Works like a champ with a Harbor Freight lift.
