Default Rear bumper build.

I started by removing my factory bumper and the tow point on the driver side as it gets in the way of just about everything but the factory bumper.

Used large cardboard boxes (48") to form the center section. I found it best to slice only through one side so you can snap it and hinge it on the uncut side without having to tape 100 parts together.

I went from there and took the rough cardboard measurements and built the entire thing in SketchUP. This allowed me to get precisely measured sizes of all the parts so I am not just guessing and crossing my fingers when I start the build.

It will be made of 3/16" steel plate. Unfortunately I only have an angle grinder and a torch at my disposal to cut all this. So its going to take time. I won't be using the torch because it just isn't precise enough, not in my hands anyway. After that I'll weld it all together, paint it up and mount it.

Its actually a pretty easy undertaking. The front would be even easier unless you wanted a winch mount.

As long as I don't goof at all, the entire build including paint will probably run me $125. I may decide to add D rings and a tow hitch cutout at the bottom. Possibly try and tackle a tire carrier down the line as well, but I am not sure yet.

Feel free to copy my design all measurements are provided.

Looks good! I'm designing my bumpers right now, how are you planning on mounting yours? I was thinking that the bolt holes on the forward running chassis sections would be best...

I'll probably use the same holes that hold the stock bumper, but double them up and add 2 more bolts behind each existing pair of holes.

Probably a good idea. I was considering a design that goes inside the frame and still uses those holes. Should be really strong like that.

Yea Im just saving all that for last. I'm gonna make the actual structure first and figure out the details of mounting it after the fact. It's just a matter of welding a bracket in place shouldn't be a big deal.

Got some grinding in before work this morning. Still have to put the two inside pieces of the tire cutout/step in and then mounting brackets. Lil paint and shes done.

I'm still pretty new to welding so I'm not the best. Grinding was nicer for me.
