Default Replace those stupid plastic screws

I was in Lowes looking for a way to replace my plastic screws that hold the front grill on. I found some drywall anchors that worked very well. They are still plastic (nylon technically), but these are much stronger. They look like that would stand up to removal in re-installation pretty well unlike the black ones. They fasten the grill much tighter than the factory ones too. They seem pretty sturdy, but since they come in packs of 12 I have two complete sets if they break. They only come in white, but a little touch up paint could fix that. The white nylon screw is probably enough by itself to hold the grill on, but I used the metal expander screw too.

Hey great job and thank you.
i bet this is significantly cheaper that oem ones. in fact i'm willing to bet this is cheaper than what they are doing at the factory and 2 seconds each slower than what they use now.

Look Chrysler save more money.

Haven't really explored this yet... but thought you guys could save me some time.

I popped the hood and looked at those plastic fasteners that hold the grill on. I popped the piece (plug I guess) that goes down the middle of the larger fastener........ how does the grill actually come off? Do you pry the bigger fasteners out that the plastic push gizmos push into? Are the larger outside fasteners actually screws?

Also... how many of these are there?

I'm asking all this in preparation to removing the grill so I can replace the headlight bulbs with H13 ST bulbs.

Yes, you pull out the outter pieces once you have removed the inside portion. There are 6 of these that hold the grill on. They're not screws, but plugs that expend once the inner piece is pushed in. Once you have removed these, you simply tilt the grill forward and you will see another bunch of clips at the bottom. Just pull on the bottom of the grill and these clips will pop free. And "Voil" the grill is free!! Just remember to unfasten the turn signal bulbs before you pull the grill all the way off!!

So these inner "plugs" just pull out too? Do they loosen after a couple of times and this is why the white sheet rock screws are recommended as replacements?

I've got a box of those white screws on my bench in the garage.

No they do not loosen up unless you mangle them while taking them out.

I use these dry wall anchors to hang my Elk and deer head mounts....very strong!!!! I have seen (zinc) metal anchors like these at my local hardware store. They cost about $0.15 more/ anchor. If you are looking for metal ones they are out there!
