Just to update everyone who asked, the boot has worked well. I wish I got it a little taller maybe 1.5-2 inches... There is an option to get a taller one. It's not a huge deal, I'll live!
Thank you for hooking me up with a new shifter knob! BEERS!
A lot of people keep asking how it shifts and if it binds up like the rubber boot. It shifts great, really smooth with no resistance or pushing back/ popping out like the rubber boot did (especially when it was cold) the hardware has been great to, no loosening or rattling and looks much better. All in all I'm very happy and would do this again.
Any of you guys who have done this mod feel free to post up your pics. If you have any ideas or info to add, go nuts!
Good luck.

Fixed mine today
I didn't do a swap for a leather boot, I just needed to fix the bezel. All those stupid plastic fasteners broke off and the rubber boot was flopping everywhere. I couldn't find the black screws so mine are just silver. I may paint them black may keep them how they are I kinda like the look of it. It took me about 30 minutes to complete and cost $0.98. I got the bag of screws and nut all in one at Home Depot. I used the #8-32 1/2" just like you said. Here are my pics of the work. Thanks for the great write up. This saved me a lot of money.

Thank you!
That's what I love about this forum; seek and you will find! My boot started flopping around yesterday and when I pulled on it, the rest of the plastic posts broke so now I need to fix it. Hitting Home Depot tomorrow on the way home from church.
