So there I was (almost lost my carpet).....
"So there I was," running westbound on IH-70 from Mechanicsburg to Dayton, OH last week when all of a sudden I had this feeling that something wasn't right.
It all started when I merged onto IH-70, and came across another fellow Jeep owner, who happily pointed at me with a smile. I pointed back and gave a head-nod, keeping the traditional "wave alive." I kept going down the highway but little did I know, what that point and smile was really for...
It wasn't until about a few more miles down the road when I noticed another funny look (with smile) from another vehicle passer-by; I thought to myself "Doh!"
So, I took a peak back and voila, the rear bed carpet was loose and getting ready to fly out (top down, doors off and the rear seats folded down).
I had just dropped off some tires that I recently sold and neglected to put the rear seats back up (I never had carpet issues with the rear seats upright).
This is my 1st Jeep Wrangler, and I enjoy it more than any other vehicle I've ever owned... I've learned so much from this forum (write-ups, mods etc) and this carpet experience is a lesson learned for sure...
So, on to my question: Any tips for securing carpet down? I already experienced a rear floor mat issue, fixed temporarily with bungee cords (see pic below). I'd like to get the tub bed-lined but that will have to wait for a while...

Bringing me back to my one-liner: "So there I was," driving down the highway thinking "how cool is it to be running down the highway topless and doorless?" Not so cool when you're clueless as to what is really going on... I pulled off at the next exit, fixed the carpet and put the rear seats back up: problem solved!
So, if you are reading this post and were "that guy" who pointed at me with a smile: "thanks for the warning" and keep on keeping on

I've had this problem as well, but took care of it with two 1/4-20 bolts. On my 2008 4-door, there's a 6mm hole on the inside wall, just behind each rear door latch. I drilled a hole through the carpet over these holes, and shoved/screwed the bolts in (it was a tight fit, but widening the holes was not necessary in my case). I secured each bolt with a locking washer and nut, then tucked the top corner of the carpet back in place. That location was the weakest link - once a strong freeway gale pulled it loose, the rest of the carpet would inflate out of its seams. With those two bolts in place, it's not going anywhere!
That's a good idea! I am contemplating lining the tub, researching it and saving up $.
I found an easier way to secure my rear floor mats (I'll post a pic later when I get home).
I secured the rear floor mats to the seat mount brackets with a couple of picnic table cloth clips (the kind you find in the camping section). It is more concealed than that the bungee cord nonsense...

Cheap and easy, they hold really well.
I will eventually pull the carpet out and line the tub.

As a followup to my 1/4-20 bolt fix: after about 6 months, one of the sides came loose, with the carpet hole stretching around the securing bolt head. Adding a washer in between the two has kept that from recurring.
