cant do that
the mirror already has ignition 12v and batt 12v the wire i am looking for is a signal wire from the door latch it has a constant 12v when the door is closed and when it opens it drops to 0 v thats what tells the mirror to activate the already charged lighting system

acording to gentex the reason you cant use the actual dome light wires is because of the dimming feature when they turn off it will not get along with the electronics in the mirror it must snap 12v on/off

I'm curious - why do you guys want footwell lights? I guess I just don't see the need. Was wondering what use it had for you who have installed some.

i must spend more time fishing stuff out of the footwell that i throw down there than you. that and from under the seats.
also, it drove me nuts that the dome light was right in a position so that my head always blocked the light from it, so i couldn't see what i needed to see - especially if what i was looking for was in the footwell or in the glove box. i would lean over the glove box or toward the passenger side footwell to search for something, but all i could see was a shadow from my head.

Use that wire to control a relay whose contacts open when the door is opened!
