Default Since 2007...

I had the clunk in my 2007 and after greasing the shaft I have not had any trouble (over 2 years ago). It is a shame that Jeep did not fix this issue in the newer models. This has been an issue since the JK came out......

I find it odd that my 2009 never had it. And now I have with the 2012.

I got so fed up with the clunking in my 2011 that i finally broke down and did this "mod" also. with only 200km since, still no clunking since i filled the boot with 5th wheel grease. highly recomended.

hey I don't know if this is totally related or not but it may be the cause of the problem along side the other suggestions, but i have had a similar problem with my other cars (Cobalt SS and Corrado VR6) [considering both cars are lowered] if i hit a bump hard enough it would knock my control arm bushings out a bit and it would make a knocking noise that could be felt in the steering wheel when you go over a bump, and would give the feeling of the steering wheel knocking, but its just the metal, they are pretty easy to fix yourself (well for me anyways cause i had to fix them a number of times). but that could be a cause, but at the same time you wont know until you check it out it seems highly improbable because it being a jeep and all and being ment to hit bumps and what not without a problem.... let me know!

I had an 07 JK with the clunky steering issue. I traded it in for a 12 JKU. I only have about 600 miles on it so far but I'm starting to experience a clunking again but it seems different. When I hit a bump or uneven pavement I can feel it from the left drivers wheel as well as the steering wheel. I'm going to make an appt and bring it in for a look when I get a chance.

How do you put the grease in a grease gun? Do you pour it or squeeze it in? Does it make a mess of the grease gun?

The grease gun will disassemble into two parts, by unscrewing the body from the pump section. You slip a grease cartridge of your choice into the body, and screw it back onto the pump section. It's very easy. Sometimes a little messy.

My 2010 had the thump, my 2011 is starting to get the thump, and hopefully my 2012 will live up to that expectation too...

The only Lucas Oil 5th wheel grease I've seen comes in a bottle, not a grease gun tube. What I was wondering is if there is a way to put it in a grease gun, or cut the nipple so that it goes over the fitting on the needle. How have others done this, or does it come in a grease gun tube?
