I'd say it was better, the plastic JK bumpers have a steel backing that's pretty flimsy as well.

Has anyone tried to mod an aftermarket TJ bumper for the JK? I've seen a lot of really cool TJ bumpers that are a buttload cheaper than a JK bumper, and wonder if there's any way to mod them to fit the JK?

depending on the bumper, it seems like you should be able to do the same thing (cutting out the bottom)

I thought that too, but I'm not sure with a lot of the bumper designs. A lot of aftermarket bumpers are taller, too. Maybe they won't have to be cut? Does anyone havea TJ bumper from a TJ that they currently have, or don't have anymore that they would be willing to put up against their JK to see what kind of mods would be necessary? Maybe WOL will chime in on this soon? Eddie!!!!! Help!!!!!

Optus:

If I understand your question correctly...
To find where to cut the TJ bumper to fit on JK mounts, I took off JK bumper
and held the TJ bumper up to the mounts, centered on the mounts, and marked for the notches with chalk.
