I have always just smacked them with a bfh. Once out, put the new one in, start the nut and tighten some to pull it in....remove nut and your back in business....that is it. just hit what your aiming at with that hammer.

all u really need a some flat washers, and a hammer... remove wheel, and brake and rotor. take hammer and hit the bad one out. slide the new one in from the backside. place a few flat washers, with a lil lube like wd on the washers only so they dont bind, on the threaded area, and put the lug nut on. use either impact gun, or hand socket and ratchet, and tighten stud until the back flaired part is FLUSH with the hub... like the way the others look.

reinstall rotor, brake, and wheel and drive away!

After you take the tire and wheel off, check to make sure the wheel stud you're wanting out doesn't have any obstruction behind it, if it does, turn the rotor. Smack it with the BFH until it pops out. When installing, I use a stack of washers(instead of the rim/tire combo) under the lugnut to pull the lug stud into the hub.

If you really want to get fancy, you can get one of these (stud installer tool). But a bunch of flat washers will work as well.

All done, did one in the back and two in the front. Can't wait to get back to school and give those sobs at that tire place a piece of my mind. I even saved them my lugs and broken studs.

May as well add this in, I know its an old thread.

Just had to do this on my jeep, was coming home one night and had 4 studs break off, had to travel a couple km's stop, tighten the one nut remaining and so on.

anyways, I also had to change a rotor, so with the old one, flip it around, feed the new stud through and tighten. had to use some lubricant, but I could not for the life of me find any washers, and I couldn't drive to get any new ones, soo....
