My thoughts also but they must work if thats what comes with it, BE CAREFUL not to loose the supplied nuts as they are square nuts not hex. I lost one and had to get a standard one and grind it down.
The bolts I got from home Depot were 6" grade 8.

Just an engineer's opinion (for what it is worth..), but the hole you added to the plate closest to the front has very little material left for edge distance and will be a very high stress point under load. That being said, the loads required to rip the bolts out of the steel would most likely be greater than that of the cable snapping off the winch, first. As a rule of thumb, I like to leave 2*Hole Diameter distance between the hole center and edge of the part. Like I said, just my opinion, but I like the extra safety factor when dealing with large loads.

I totally agree with you on the hole placement, I tried to componsate in two ways; I added a bolt in the middle on each side and the front bolt really only comes into play when the front of the winch cable is running on the top roller, like if the Jeep's nose was trying to be lifted straight up.
