Where are some good beginner winter trails around Eagle River/Anchorage?

I'd say head out to jims creek off the old glenn highway in butte! Buffalo mine just outside of palmer isnt too bad either! Those are the 2 closest places i can think of.

I wanna say, avoid jims creek unless you wanna start replaceing parts cuz of the glacier silt....Some great trails ive been on are Rubi Lake, Eska falls, Eurka.... those would be worth lookin into...

I agree with Dan. Jim's creek is fun but you need to do a thorough wash when you get back. I still find silt hiding in remote places.

I've heard the old mine out by sutton is a nice drive but I haven't done it. Hatchers pass is also nice but any car can do it.

Jim's is rather silty but it is awesome for winter wheeling and i mean dont you wash your rig everytime you come back from wheeling anyways. Been going there with friends since 09 and havent had any silt related issues!
