Default Crystal Beach/Bolivar question.

Been thinking of hitting the beach in the next couple of weeks, High Island area isn't too far away from Baytown, but I have a question regarding driving on the beach. I was told that you have to get a special sticker now to drive on the beach, is this true? (I haven't been down there in a few years) If so, where do I get this sticker? Thanks for any help!

You have to get a sticker to "park" on the beach, any of their local stores, bait shops, etc have them. People that camp generally have them, I forget about it all the time, had one for my last Jeep though. I'm sure Skoalman can give us the skinny on this, he's the Gulf Master

Anyway, what Sasquatch says is correct. To park on the beach you will need the beach parking decal. $10 from any store on Bolivar, or you can wait till the beach decal patrol rolls by, they sell them as well.

There are some free areas you can park where you do not need a decal. One such area is from the bird sanctuary/Rettilon road east to the big washout/cut. Gets kinda crowded tho because no decal is needed.

Thanks for the info! I can see why the free area is probably crowded, I will just pay the $10 and avoid the crowd!

Not much left down there right now. Just talked to a friend that flew down there today and 3rd row houses are now beach front. Probably be a couple years before it gets back to what it was.

It will be more than a couple of years.

What we are hearing now, still just a rumor, is that the Feds want to turn Bolivar into a National Seashore ala PINS, or into a bird sanctuary.

Gators are the only thing alive there now.

I doubt that beach parking permit will be that big of a deal.

Seriously though, this really sucks. I have several friends who lost their houses, completely, gone. Lots of good memories over the years down there. I hope everyone rebuilds and they can get back to some kind of normalcy one day.
