A montana jeep trail
If you have watched my videos... you know my Dad bought a 2015JKU Rubicon several years ago... and it has been left on top of a mountain more than once now... for a little less than a week both times (glad we are in Montana- never seen any sign of vandalism). Last time was a sector shaft that sheered off at the steering box. I went back and replaced it in a snow bank.
We had a power steering pump go out, but were able to get it home and get a new pump on two months ago.
On this trip the pressure line coming from the pump exploded... and having a serpentine belt limits your response. We tried repairing with extra hose and lots of hose clamps... it came apart in seconds. We tried three or 4 fixes... all failed- even splitting the hose near the pump. We were out of fluid after the failed attempts so came back with a new line 3 days later. When I pulled the old line off... at the steering box...there was a pink straw shoved down into the box. So the pump couldn't force any fluid into the gear... and built pressure until a hose or fitting exploded. Looking around online it appears that the line has "stints" in it near the crimped joints to prevent leaking at the joint... this one came loose and was forced by the pump down into the box and jammed it shut. It took 40 min. to get that straw out of the steering gear! Just a heads up that if your pressure line randomly explodes... it might be the liner plugging up your steering box! I might also carry an extra pressure line now... lol.
The video is of a old Chrome mine trail in the Beartooth mountains. As always... my videos are not documentary type stuff... it's just a combo of music and video.
