Kansas city and surrounding area
Chip, did I state there was a conflict? Did I say that KCJKO has lost "members" (although officially there are no members)? Sorry to put you out there Chip by having to explain it again, guess i missed as to where you posted this before...just trying to understand the reasoning. Maybe because you "seem to be explaining why the NKC exists a lot lately" should tell you something. I guess I understand now....people don't like to drive. That's great. I am officially a member of only one Jeep group Chip, an invite only group without a formal presence. Do i consider the NKC group "threatening" as you state, no lol. KCJKO is not an official group with no members although I choose to attend these social gatherings. Simply stated I find it disappointing there has to be two social groups, one would be a hell of a show of force...but whatever works for you. If I had that kind of drive I would not likely attend either so that's fair.
You can have "a hell of a show of force" any time you feel like it, and always have been able to do so. You have been in the Kansas City Northland Jeepers group for what, almost 2 months now. You have always been welcome to invite members of the Northland group to KCJKO events whenever you wanted to. I have no control over the people in the Northland group, they are free to come and go as they please, and I would think that you would be aware that a substantial number of the people in the Northland group are also in the KCJKO group. In the past I have stated that I thought it might be nice to get the two groups together at some midway point close to downtown. Just last night at our meet & greet, I had that discussion with Pat from your group.
I am not on any power or ego trips, the people in our group are free to participate in any group they want to participate in. Many seem to participate in both, so it just seems to be a win for them.
Chip

Throwing my $0.02 in the mix, I live up north of the river, so driving over an hour to go eat dinner with Jeepers is a lot of time on the road. I was glad Chip formed the Northland group - you'd be surprised how many people up here have Jeeps but aren't in any clubs or anything. I've met half a dozen guys with seriously built rigs (42's all the way up to a monster on 47's). Lots of guys up here have shops (I know at least 3 guys with lifts here, 2 within walking distance of my house. Pretty much everyone has welders, etc).
But there aren't any clubs. Most of the guys up here live out in the country, and go wheeling in groups of 2-3 friends. So yeah, I think it's kind of cool that there's a group of Jeepers (not just JK jeeps) that get together up here and reach out to the locals. I don't see any conflict in it whatsoever. We've got 3 sides of the city covered now - Olathe (KCJKO), North of the River (KCNLJ), and Lee's Summit (NOBS). I know several people who participate in all three, other than me. I'm also a member of the KC Jeep Club, KC 4 Wheel Drive Association, and KAMO Jeep Club. I've been meaning to join the Show Me Jeep Club up in St Joe too, just to help support them with dues. I don't make every meeting or event with every club, but I've got a pretty good idea who's going where every weekend, for the most part. That makes it super convenient when I decide Friday afternoon that I need a wheelin' fix... I can just go see where everyone's going to be on my calendar, and show up.
Every group and club I belong to has stock jeeps and modified jeeps. I've wheeled with guys who just stepped up to 33's and are still open at both end.... guys who don't want to scratch their paint.... and guys on 42's who I think are trying to teach their Jeep to roll over. Whatever it's all good.
I've had some discussions lately with several people about the impact social media (specifically Facebook) has had on the local clubs. What I've been seeing with the Jeep Clubs the last couple of years has also been happing to many other social clubs in the area - people are moving away from the "club" with dues and by-laws, and into small groups on Facebook. I see pros and cons to this, and I'd be happy to discuss it with anyone who wants to, over a beer sometime.
