Interesting. So its likely not fun in a Jeep, but would be if you were there in a dune buggy or ATV is what you're saying.

Personally, to me, it was ok. We got lost twice out there in the 3 hours we were there. Plus, we were the only jeep there; it may have been fun with a group. But sand is not my thing.

I took my Jeep to Little Sahara 3 weeks ago and saw maybe 3 other Jeeps in the park. It was interesting... but would be much more fun in a lighter vehicle (ATV). I tend to enjoy trails that lead somewhere. Went to Silveron - Teluride area this summer and really enjoyed that.

Any of you guys ever done the Kiamachi trail from Clayton, Ok - Mena, Ar? I drove a small section from Clayton east to Indian Highway last week and thought that was pretty good.

Same here... Did you take Blackbear Pass or Ophir Pass? That's the type of trails I personally like - where you can start at one place, take the trails to the next point - camp, head to another point - camp, and so on.

I think toyfreak was there not too long back; not sure if he did the whole trail or not. Mark Doiron and myself alongwith the family had driven the Skyline Talimena Drive from Talihina to Mena (although we didn't quite go all the way to Mena, AR). Read up some on a Toyota Forum about some people that had gone on that trail and encountered some uhhh... rough moments with some locals and had to fire a round in the air . Again, emphasizes the importance of going in "packs" . I'd be up for this trail next year if we can get a group going. Make it a couple day affair and camp along the way somewhere.

We went from Silverton - Teluride by Ophir pass; then went to Teluride - Uray by Imogene pass; then Uray - Lake City by Cinnamon Pass. Two nights of camping with two other JK jeeps... a great time indeed!
Was in a TJ at the time and drug bottom on much of the Engineer trail. Watching the two JKs handle this much better is why I bought the JK Rubicon the first day after we returned to Oklahoma.

Looking forward to Black Bear Pass next time.

I saw that same write-up, and was a bit concerned about driving alone in the area. Let me know if you guys plan a trip... I would go also.

If you went from Ouray to Lake City, chances are you did the Engineer Pass; Cinnamon Pass I think connects Animas Forks - Lake City (much closer to Silverton than Ouray). When we were there in July this year, I didn't get a chance to do the Alpine Loop, or the Cinnamon/Engineer Pass. Hope to do this next year on the way to Moab by spending a day or two in Ouray . Did get to do Picayne Gulch from Silverton to Animas Forks though, which was very nice indeed.

PS: Blackbear Pass is definitely something to do atleast once; I'd love to do it again someday, preferably in a larger group.

Will definitely keep that in mind; I think I'm done for this year, but somewhere around spring/summer next year, we may try and do this and will post up when the time gets closer .

Has anyone heard from Rick (RCJunkie)? I know he'd mentioned that his mom was in the hospital; hope she's doing well.
