I think you are right... but the year divide is probably talking about the rail mounts... the older JK's soft tops attach different than the newer ones, and I believe the safari top uses the factory rails...

So, to support Duane's answer, I think there are actually 4 models... mesh or not, new JK or old JK

good choice i ran one on my 2 door, only thing i had to do is add 2 small racheting pull straps ( hardware store) from the roll bar to keep it from flapping and making noise
