Default Want a ride

Hello I am looking to purchase a new Rubicon and I would love if I might be able to tag along on a ride with someone to really know what I want. I live in Tulsa, ok and would appreciate if anyone would be willing.

Buy your Jeep yet? Don't know your timeframe but there's an event at http://www.ksrockspark.com on Feb 25th. I'm sure you'd get plenty of ideas there.

Although if you're buying a Rubicon you have everything you want out of the box. Only additional options really are: make sure it has 4.10 gears, and do you want an auto or manual. After that it's fluff - Nav system and such.

I agree! The gears are an important thing out the door unless you are planning on going huge immediately with a re-gear as well. I've got a sport and the only things I "regret" is not having a d44 up front for the strength, and the rubi transfer case. Mostly just the transfer case since I'll re-gear eventually and I'm not planning on going above 35 inch tires so the stock d30 is fine.

I just picked up a '12 CRUSH RUBICON today.. already put 500 miles on it..

The '12s are a different beast than the older models. be careful that you're not getting out of date advice... at least research it yourself. For example:

The new engine is 300hp instead of the old 200 (big difference) The transmissions are all different, and better too.. The auto is a 5 speed now.. and QUITE good. The 4:10 gears are somewhat overkill now.... DEPENDING on what you want to do.

I read that the 4:10s actually get BETTER gas mileage with 35's than with stock 32s.. There's a chart somewhere that shows you what gears are best for desired tire size... I'd have a look at it if I were you..

I never plan on getting 35s.. 33s prolly. so for my Rubi, I got the higher gears to retain some fuel conservation.. Believe me.. you'll have NO trouble getting torque, and power where needed on the trail without the 4:10s..

I chose the automatic.. If you've ever been on a steep trail with lots of switch-backs, and sheer drops... you might learn to despise the Manual.. I did anyhow..

If you go older: I would NOT own a 3.8 ('07-'11) without 4:10s... My Rubicon with stock 4:10 gears wasn't 'under-powered'... but I'd HATE to have any less power.

Other features:

I went with NON-color matched fenders and hard top... I hate the soft top (takes too long to manipulate the zip in windows... and they are ruined in a week due to VERY easy scratching...

I would destroy the color matched accessories almost immediately.. In the woods, fenders, and tops take 85% of the abuse from trees.

I opted for Cloth seats... I DO pressure wash the inside of my jeep in the summer... something tells me that a soaked leather seat might be an issue.

Everything else is not really function related.. but..

I chose the 430 mygig, so I could load music onto the HDD.. I feel that the NAV on my phone is better..but the other features make it worth while. To save some $$.. wait and buy this used on the forum..

I got the connectivity package. Bluetooth phoning (Uconnect) is a must for me.. depending on the day, and speed... it even works with the doors off.

I got remote start, and auto thermostat (when you remote start it.. it turns on the heater.. or AC depending on outside temp)

I would have gotten heated seats for some of those door-less nights... but I didn't want to do a special order and wait 2 months for that one feature... besides.. I guess it can be retro-fitted.
