Who Wants OKC Meet and Greet?
I remember going out there all the time back in the day. It was a pretty cool place. We would always head up the powerline cut and venture off around the lake. There was some good spots out there! Too bad it is shut down. I'd still go out there anyways and trade a good time for an ass chewing.
We would always head south down Douglas and all line up at the dead end. Put our boots on and go have fun. Now there are roads all though there and signs about every 10 feet saying no offroad. What a party pooper!
Talked to a ranger out there before all this happened and he said something about, when they close the park they have to , by law, provide an a place for us to wheel. Who knows though. I guess not.
There was another place off 59th, I think, that was small but , a nice little spot to wheel. Not sure if it's still there. You could watch the planes land from there.

I was out there a couple days ago--remember, threat of rain, but little rain came out of it? They had almost every road shut down, even though from what I could see everything was dry as a bone. I actually had just washed the Jeep and wasn't at all interested in mud or Officer Pound, I just wanted to shoot some pic's. Well, I ended up at the marina--they even had that dirt road around the lake closed off--never seen that before. I think the other side of the lake was still open (east side), but I wanted the west side because of the sun light and background clouds. Anyway, I'm starting to wonder if it won't become more like what happened along the Canadian River, where it's a park, but nobody can get in to use it. If the north side of the lake is any indication, they're going to put in some upgraded facilities--and lots of paved roads. The only off-roading will be for ATVs. :-(
BTW: I think the 59th Street area is shut down. Isn't that where the bicyclists also went? They do have a nice mountain biking park at Draper, now--Nudraper. Definitely a lot of fun, and kudos to OKC for doing something right.

I'm not sure; I've never been. Interceptor_1972 has, so you might PM him. IIRC, they said it was right where that old trestle bridge and I-44 cross the river. Is that technically Norman?
Yes, it is technically Newcastle... It is right behind the I-44 Speedway off of I-44 [take the SW 149th St Exit]. Not a lot there, but still fun nonetheless. And then, there's Sundog Trails in Lexington/Purcell which is small, but offers a few different trails, small obstacles, plenty of mud for those that want that [gooey sticky one too] and sand/water since it's right by the river. Both places were $10/day per vehicle if I remembered correctly.
That said, are we still doing a meet and greet? If so, when? Where?
Seeing as this Sunday is Easter Sunday, I'm sure people have plans already - so here's another date out there well in advance to see who all might be up for it - April 11th, 2010? We could either do just a get together for a meet, greet and eat, or get together a little earlier in the morning and go some mild wheeling and have some fun and then get together for lunch. We could even make this into a family day out and bring the kids and significant others and do a sorts of potluck lunch? Just throwing out ideas. Regardless of when and where, we need to do something - the weather's starting to get too nice to not be out.
