Default $35 Steering stabilizer upgrade

Hey everyone.... after my lift i put on an upgraded SS and wasn't too impressed with its size... or lack of size... it was only slightly larger than stock, but none the less seemed to do the job. Now, some time later, its not keeping up to the task of keeping the 35s from jolting around from pot holes and large bumps... so, i went to my local murrays auto parts store and baught a SS for a TJ..... they only had the OEM replacements in stock, and a Rancho RS5000 available to order. So for 35 bucks, i baught the stock one, bolted right up with only one hitch.... the TJ SS has a sleeve pressed into the shock bushing on only one end... so i went to Lowes home improvement and baught the approporiate size steel spacer, slipped it in, bolted the whole thing up, and wowa woaha... it made quite a difference. The Stock oem TJ replacement is considerably larger than the stock JK SS and i'm really very pleased. It doesn't come with a shock boot, but it does have the flange there so one can be put on it, unlike the stock JK unit. the murrays part number was sc2928 and its a monroe magnum stabilizer shock. it has a limited lifetime warranty so when it goes bad i'll get a new one free

Anyway, i thought i'd share with you guys cuz i know how we're always looking for new ways to do things, and it was such a simply bolt up thing that i figured it would be worth sharing.

Good luck

So what was wrong with getting a steering stabilizer specifically made for the JK...Skyjacker has on ($35)...Fox has one ($135)...Rusty's, Rancho, etc...all bolt right up to stock mounts.

nothing wrong with getting one made for the JK... i didn't know skyjacker had one for only 35... but whats nice about it is that it was in stock at my local auto parts store and i didn't have to wait for delivery or pay for shipping....

plus, i know some places stock the TJs heavy duty SS made by rancho... so if it was important for someone to get one right away, at least they know it can be done

i personally wouldnt trust anything that skyjacker puts out(they have a past with me and one of my freinds with a TJ)

I got the superlift one, for like $60 , is alot better than the stock one.

Well... just some day two feedback.... still glad i put the OEM TJ replacement from the local auto store in there.... it really made a big difference, and it seems to handle the 35s with ease.

Thanks for posting this up! I'll probably have to upgrade mine in the near future and it's nice to know about the different options.
