You should be able to swap the sensors to new rims. I have new rims on order so I haven't done it yet but it should work. I swapped them on my Yukon and it worked fine. FYI in case you didn't know, there's a sensor in the spare too that is being actively monitored so don't forget about it if you swap out or your light will probably come on.

well the only bummer is that the wheels and tires come mounted and balanced already... so I guess I"ll just have to deal with the light being on.

I'm not sure about the Jeep, but many tire pressure monitoring systems use the ABS/Traction control sensors to detect a difference in wheel speed, which determines if a tire is low.

if you break them back down to install the sensors you do not have to rebalance. Just air back up and bolt on.

I don't have the tire mounter to break them down. No way you can do that by hand. I cherokee has the tpms and its on the valve stems inside the rim. I'm sure the wrangler is the same

The dealership here in Greenville, NC has several 08's with lifts and wheel/tire packages on the lot. I'll ask tomorrow while I am there.

ah sweet! thanks I"m sure they just transfer the tpms on to the new rim. But it sucks cause my tires and wheels come mounted and balanced, so I'm not about to pay to have them re mounted and balanced just to get the sensors put in

I am in the same boat trying to decide if I should reuse the TPMS sensors when changing out my tires on Saturday. I would also like to bead balance the set and that can not happen with TPMS installed in the rims. Thanks again to our friends in Washington for another great new law:toung:

Take care,

From the ones that I've seen, this is incorect. I sell Honda parts and all of Honda's are the valve stem type TPS and I had a 05 Grand Cherokee that was the same way.
