Default 16 vs 17

OK here is a noob question for ya…

Are there benefits or reasons to go with a smaller or larger rim size? or is it purely aesthetics?

Been trying to decide whether to go with 16's or 17's

Thank you in advance for being able to tap into the collective intellect…

16's...rims are cheaper, tires are cheaper and it gives you more sidewall when offroading. The 17 will give you slightly better cornering on the highway, but mine is not a Mustang so it don't bother me at all.

The current trend is to run a slightly larger wheen than in the past. The main reason for this is because people are going to larger tires. The 17" wheel will give overall better cornering, but have less sidewall to conform to obstacles off road. This is not really a noticable difference though on a 16" vs 17" wheel. Also there are more sizes available fo 17" wheels. Most tires stop after a 35" (315x75x16) size, but most 17" sizes go up to 40+"

16's all around are usually alot cheaper. However if you shop around and negotiate enough you can get a full set of 17's (rim and tire) for about the same price as 16's. For the money Pro Comp rims and tires seem to be the best deal out there... Rims always seem to be buy 3 get one free. I got the Pro Comp Xtreme MT tires (37" ) and couldnt be happier.

X2 that why I went with 16's The tires are WAY cheaper. I could touch a set 17" wheels and tires for the set of 16" wheels and tires I purchased.

If I go after market I'll go to a 16" as well for all the reasons listed, I think if I were going to go over 35" tires I would consider the 17" though.

I chose 17 inch rims in order to keep enough clearance behind the wheel in the event that we have an option in the future for some type of upgraded brake system.
