Default 16s vs. 17s?

I realize there is a similar thread not too long ago about this, but mine are slightly different circumstances. The wheels I want are available in both 16x8 and 17x8 sizes with the exact same backspacing and the tires I'm interested in are available in both 315/75R16s and 315/70R17s. There is about a $15 difference in the two setups. Basically I could have the same overall setup with either size. So, having that said, does one size offer benefits that I'm unaware of like being easier to balance etc.? Or is the difference going to be purely cosmetic and personal preference?

The only thing of note differing in the two options beside the obvious is that the tires are E rated in 16s and D rated in 17s.

I personally just like 16s b/c they show off more rubber.

Noticed your from Jonesboro. I went to undergrad there and met my wife. We are now in LR, but go back there all the time. Let me know when your coming through to goto Hot Springs.

If you ever want to upgrade to 37''s (thats might happen, even if youre not planning to right now ) You would be better with 17''. There is much more models to choose from in 17'' than 16''

I went with 16'' because of ''more rubber the better'', and now i cant hardly find any 37'' that fits 16'' wheels

I think there are a few stAte grads on here actually.

I think I'm gonna go with the 17s. As people have said it seems easier to find bigger tires (which I will probably want someday...I'm a realist ). Plus I think the wheels that I'm looking at simply look better in the slightly larger diameter. They look a bit cramped as far as the design cues in the smaller sizes.

I went with 16s first with my 35s then when I wanted to upgrade to bigger tires (40s) there wasnt much to pick from...wish I would have went 17s from the start to save some money.
