I didnt read any of the posts in this thread, but here is my coupla pennies.....
16" pro: More side wall and they look good enough....
17" pro: They look better and have enough side wall.....

Problem with 16" tires is that there is not alot of choices for sizes above 35" and the 35" are actually a little smaller if you do the conversion.
I can't remember the brand now, but I saw a Jeep with 17" 35s and it seemed a good bit larger than my 315/75 R16
Next time I'd get alloy wheels to save on rotating weight, which hurts braking performance.

The tire prices definitely go up when they run this deal. I've been looking at them too, then this sale hit and I noticed a sizeable price increase. As they say, there is no such thing as free...
Less sidewall will give better road manners, more sidewall will give a slight bit more tire flex offroad when you're aired down.

For sure, 4wd.com's price goes up from 237.99 to 267.99 for the tire I'm looking at, so I guess you could look at it as paying $90 for the fourth tire, which is still a pretty smokin' deal.

This is not something they do all the time as previously posted. This is the first time they have offered this special in 2 years. They used to run it every year in March until they stopped, 2 years ago.
Shoot me a PM if interested in the tires, and I am running a 20% off PC Rims, Free M&B, and shipping special on these as well.

Having had several years of no rim size choices with only 15", I now have 18" rims on my '09 Sahara and can tell you the road manors of a vehicle with more rim and less tire are vividly apparent to this driver.
I am comparing 35" options with 18" vs 20" rims but cannot find someone with tires this short, on 20" rims to test.
*I run in the sand < 1% of the time. Truth is I am on pavement most of my driving like it or not.
* You can always air down with any tire.
* Anything but AT tires are getting too spacific for most of us.
* I like the extreme AT's on the 3 fer deal, but they are load range D not C so they are good for 8000Gross lbs. (They will likely ride like hell, and have poor road manors) The BFG MT on the Rubi are one off load range C tires in 32" and I have not found a comparable tire in 35" as they are all HD truck tires now.
Note:
The salesman who sold me the Jeep has a Rubicon '06 and '08, and has rearended someone twice now in his view due to the mud tires. Both Jeeps have BFG Tires, the '08 has MT BFG.
I tested my '09 unlimited with panic stops and wet skid lock ups and the result is it does not stop like a BMW, for that matter it stops marginally better than my Dodge 1 ton dually which is almost twice as heavy.
It does handle in a way the other vehicles do not, "off pavement", thus why I bought it-
And it tows like a dream behind my 42' diesel coach.
