17x8 Wheels
I'm trying to find tires to put 17x8 wheels on and want to run 35" tires. Anyone recommend a manufacturer? it looks like Nitto and Mick T are out. I fell in love with a 17x8 wheel tonight <<heart beating fast>>
thank you
wheels have 4.5 bs

i think the ones your runnin start with 8.5 rim width recommendation. maybe its not that big of deal if i go with a tire with that recommendation even though its half inch over minimum rec
the one tire i was looking at has a width of 13 and approved rim of 8.5 - 11

The previous owner of my JK had 17x8s (4" backspacing) with the toyo 12.5x35 tires I'm still running now. I swapped out the set for 17x9's (4.5" backspacing), the tires ride much better. Larger contact patch and more even wear. If you're even thinking about the remote possibility of getting something larger than a 35 or wider than 12.5 I would STRONGLY rec getting 9" or wider rims.
It depends on what is important to you. A wider rim will provide a wider tire cross section and wider treadprint, but it increases the potential for interference and provides less rim protection.
The max backspacing for rims with 12.5-13.5" wide tires is ~4.5". If you go with a rim that is wider than 9" and 4.5" you will have negative offset which changes the loading on the axles and changes the handling via the larger scrub radius.
Based on these factors, IMO 8-9" is the ideal rim width.

I have 17x8 Black Rock Steel wheels with 4.5 inch backspacing and really like them. I have dented them several times wheeling and all it takes it a couple of whacks with the 2.5 pound hammer to get them back. If you intend to wheel at all, I wouldnt spend very much money on wheels. They get beat up fast. The steel wheels were only 70 bucks a piece from Quadratec.
