1st lift
hey guys
so i got my 1st jeep over the weekend 2007 4 door Ultimate X and now i am looking to do a lift and some wheels.
I originally wanted to do a long arm and all that expensive stuff, but was told I dont really need all that right now because i do not planning on doing any rock crawling.
I will be doing mostly city driving with occasional offroad when i go upstate. so I heard a budget lift would suit me just fine.
Does anyone have anything they can recommend me in the 3.5-4" lift height range?
thanks guys

Any reason you are wanting that much lift? What size of tires are you going to run. There are all sorts of other things you need to factor in when you start talking about that much lift. Dirtman has a great write up, read it, it is full of great information that a lot of people do not normally think about. Congrats on the Jeep!
37 tires.... To be done right can be pricey. But for just looks/dd and basic offroad you can slowly piece together a lift if you'd like. Aggressive is a personal opinion so you can decide that. Dirts write up as mentioned is great and also a stickie
If this is going to be a DD you might want to rethink that. With 37s you're going to need to re-gear if it's a 07 and that will set you back over $1k easy. You can do a BB and 33's and be fine or go with a 2.5" lift and 35's but again you're going to really think about re-gearing once you get to 35's to get the power back.

The writeup that has been mentioned is a good place to start, it is stuck right to the top of this modified area. Figure out what changes as you lift higher, and what components fix those new problems. If you go with a 'budget' lift, it will have 'budget' components (cam bolts and drop pitman come to mind) so do some searching on the specific components that come in the lift you decide on for feedback on what to expect. Also do some reading on repairing/replacing your front driveshaft (steeper joint angles due to the lift height). And on beefing up that front axle housing (gussets/truss/sleeves). And on regearing for the new tires (East coast, people are reporting $3000 charges for new gears).
If you want 37's, go for it. Just go into it with a little knowledge...

'Budget' and 3.5-4" may not really go together. After lifting that high, you will probably want all of the parts to make it drive right for the 100% of the time you are onroad, not the .003% you are off pavement. Right?

I was looking for a budget lift to start and be able to upgrade in time when money comes around.
so you are saying 35" times need regearing? because i want as large a tire i can get without regearing right now.
i was thinking starting with some coils and shocks and drag link and then in time changing more on the lift.
I was actually asking someone to help advise me exactly what lift kid would be a good choice for me to buy in this early game as i learn more about exactly what i want
What gears do you have now? If 3.21s then 35s will suck with those gears, especially in hilly terrain with the 3.8. With 3.73s and flat terrain you should be okay with 35s for a while, but it will probably get old fast.
