Newb question here but will the OEM tailgate setup handle the weight of a 35" tire?

Reason I ask is I just bought roughly the same setup: 2.5" TF lift w/new 17x8.5 rims and new 315/70R17 tires. I was not going to install the 5 wheel until after I bought a new rear bumper w/tire carrier, but if the OEM can handle the weight I will install it...help?

Will it handle the weight of a 35? for awhile.

Eventually, the extra weight might take a toll on the tailgate hinges. Some people get by fine with a 35 back there. But with the constant bouncing of onroad use, there is a better chance it will break the hinges. I wouldn't and I don't keep my 35 on the back, but I also have the extra room to keep it in the back because of it being an unlimited.

As mentioned it will for a while it will last longer if you support it from below with some upward pressure. I used a rubber mallet head to do the job until I got my bumper/tire carrier combo. But some tires are heavier than others and you will notice the gate start to sag when you open it within the first two weeks.

Excellent looking rig and I love the bushwhacker flares. Those are on my Christmas list but I don't think they will be under the tree. :(
