2007 JK Auto Hard shifting
I recently purchased a 2007 Wrangler X Sport with 118k miles and changed the transmission fluid about a week later by dropping the pan, changing the filter and adding 4 quarts initially. I then added about another quart once I drove it around some. I assume it still had the original factory fluid and it was orange in color. It was shifting fine before I changed the fluid and was fine with 4 new quarts.
However once I added that extra quart thinking it was low (at least that's what the dipstick showed), it started randomly hard shifting into third. It sounded more like it was slamming into gear really hard to the point I can hear a clunking noise. It felt like it wanted to stop all the sudden during 2-3 change. I cant really explain it, but I have never experienced this before.
I have played with the fluid levels and two different filters to the point the entire fluid is now fresh (ATF+4). There were no shavings both times the pan was dropped. I finally got the jscan app and learned to check the level according to the temperature. The jeep now hard shifts from 1-2 and fine from 2 - 3, 3 - 4 for a few days (although the 1-2 is not a slam, it's still a little harder than before), then shifts fine from 1-2, slam from 2-3, and fine from 3-4. I have done the quick relearn by resetting the PCM and also through the jscan app and it only improves for a day or two.
I have also noticed this 2-3 hard shift becomes more obvious and harder if I sit at a red light for a few minutes with the car is in Drive. If stop and immediately go or if slow down to the point it downshifts to 1st and then upshift from there, it usually does not slam into 3rd.
I have used several scan tools and there are no codes, except for P0455.
I do not know what else to do to this to this thing. I have checked the harnesses and I even added a Hayden 678 auxiliary cooler with no improvement. The only thing I noticed today was the front output sensor leaking some transmission fluid, not much, but definitely wet around it sincve the o-ring has failed.
Surely the fluid change did not ruin this thing???
I can replace the valve body and solenoid if I need to since it does not appear to be hard, but then again there are no codes and I do not wish to dump money unncessarily on this thing. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
