Default 2007 Rubicon steering column : Help needed

I noticed after cleaning my Rubi engine after a ride in Eveglades that something didnt look right where the steering column comes thru the firewall. (see pics) looks like support bracket for the column is gone! But Im not sure, I went to a near by dealership and had look at a 2013 to see how that config looked. it is completely different from mine. I was hoping someone with a 07 could send me pic so i could compare. The dealer said the intermediate steering column needs to be replaced but im not convinced. I cant believe the entire part would disintegrate and fall off. The entire housing is gone. The truck steers fine but there is a shake in the column when turning. There is no mount or missing rivets or anything on the firewall. A picture of a good one would go along way.

The intermediate steering shaft was changed around 2010. The first style had a problem where the plastic bushing was slipping out sliding down towards the universal joint making it loose.

Here's a pic from my 2009. You can see where the collar has pushed out about an inch and I used zip ties to stop it. You can tap it back in but not all the way. The new style intermediate shaft had the collar installed so it's on the inside of the firewall to keep it from sliding down the shaft.

It looks to me like the collar/bushing is all the way out on yours.

On the pic of the new Jeep your looking at the opposite end of the plastic collar poking into the engine bay.

I went out and looked at mine. I cannot upload a picture right now. But it looks like the sleeve that should go through your firewall is slid up the steering shaft inside your engine compartment. It looks like only a couple inches of the sleeve should be on the engine side of the firewall.

Try sliding that back up into the firewall off from your steering shaft under the hood.

Cannot be sure from the picks, hope it helps.

HaHA I hit post and find NCB beat me to it. His looks exactly like mine.
