anyone using the shifter always, i want to know if this will cause extra wear or strain. and is it ok?
A true electronic shifter shifts up or down, like a manual gearbox.

The Jeep shifter is not made for shifting, but for setting the highest gear to be used.
When it's on '1', that's the highest gear, so regardless of engine rpm, it stays in '1'.
When moved to '2', the gearbox is allowed to step up, and so on when set to '3' or '4'.
It shifts down the same way, by limiting the top gear, so if in '3' and you set it to '2', the gearbox steps down to the new limit.
On roads, it's used for preventing acceleration on down slopes and preventing frequent gear changes on up slopes.
Offroad, it's good for keeping power by limiting to '1' or '2'.

Revving so high to change gears ,wears the engine and wastes fuel. In any case, it's not correct DD driving.

If you need it all the time, the solution is to re-gear. 3.21 is low for 35".
I have 4.1 and 35" and it's OK. Many would prefer 4.56 .

i have a d30 up front and very hesitant to gear anything over 4.1 due to gear sizes in the d30.
i understand how the shifter in 2012s works by top gear limit.

but im not reving 100% to 3 grand, just slowly so my rpm doesnt drop below 1500 on the next gear up.

driving without shifter, after every gear change, the rpms drop so low i get that surging and feeling of very limited power. im not actually speed racing, just trying to reach speed without lugging around like a sloth

Alot of people run big gears in the d30. Just install the sleeves and gussets and your good as a 44 IMO

I wouldn't say its good as a d44, because the the d30 has a small ring and pinion and if u have 5.13s or 5.38s. The r &p will be the weakest point and break first
