Can't speak to mileage but stress would be the there even at lower weights. It's all about torque and leverage... The taller the tire the more leverage it has to bend your axle off road... It's like how a longer ratchet makes it easier to break open bolts

I had the 1.5 inch spidertrax on my TJ, they put the stock wheel out just enough to clear bigger tires, and i never ran into any problems with the spidertrax.
