Just bought a 2017 jku. Already has a lift and 35s. When I brake it jerks the steering left to right and doesn't feel like it could stop if I needed to jam the brakes. The brake pads look good. Is this a bleeding issue, caliper issue? Any help pointing me in the right direction would be great. I don't want to just throw parts at it.

 

Flighty steering can be caused by not enough caster angle.You should have +4.5 degrees

 

Will schedule alignment. The only thing that stands out though is it doesn't do it unless you brake.

 

Do you have a brake caliper that is hanging up?

What kind of lift is it? Do you know if you have aftermarket or new brake hoses with the lift or are they the original factory hoses?

 

It has 2.5" teraflex spacers with upgraded swaybar links and fox shocks. The brake lines look stock

 

Can a regular alignment shop just set it to the factory specifications and that work or do I need some special specs? All I have is the 2.5" spacer lift

 

If you're asking about caster, there is no way to adjust it with factory components. The easiest, and sometimes the best, method is to add control arm brackets if you can handle a bit of ground clearance loss at the frame rails. The other common method is adjustable control arms (for a low lift just the two lowers....for higher lift all 4 arms). Please don't use cam bolts. Longer fixed-length arms are an option as well, but not a good one IMO as they offer zero adjustability.

 

the original complaint was that when braking the vehicle was jerking left to right. The rotors could be warped causing the caliper to drag and pull to one side. Caliper could be hanging up on one side. I don't believe bleeding the system will do anything.

 

Thanks all I really got under there and checked out the steering. Looks like the drag link and tie rods are shot. I really should of checked it out better at the dealer before I bought it. Replacing those parts and hopefully after the alignment it will be all good. I will update.

 

Hey, I had this exact thing happen after I did some brake work that required me to "Clamp" the brake line to stop fluid from coming out. Apparently that caused a partial blockage in the line which made that caliper stick more than the others. Changing the brake line on that side fixed my issue. Good luck!
