Default 285/75's on stock wheels

Due to a shortage of money, I'm thinking of just getting some 285/75-16 tires and running them on my stock steel wheels. Has anyone ever run these without wheel spacers? Where will they rub and how bad? I can live with some minor rubbing. I think I'm also gonna get daystars leveling kit for the front.

285's are right at the hairy edge of rub issues, so, you might not have any rub...or, you might have some rub.

I think this is what you described as ok....so, you should be OK, if a little rubbing is ok.

You can also turn out the turnstop bolts a bit to reduce full lock related tire hits if its an issue....a free fix.

Is the rubbing bad when fully flexed?

Mine rubbed a little bit, but I was able to live with it for about 8 months before I bought wheel spacers. I recommend getting the spacers though, especially if you're getting MTs cause even though it looks like it doesn't cause any damage, when those lugs are bouncing off the sway bar you feel like you're going to break something lol. Only rubs when you turn the wheel fully to the right or left though, even just a hair back from all the way and it was fine =) Dakota Definity's look nice, are quiet, and do a great job for a cheap price. Like $129 each for the 285x75 R16's and they are almost always available for buy 3 get the 4th free from Pep Boys.

Pics are in my gallery if you want to see them =)

It was fine until I went with the Currie control arms. Then I had to go with some spacers.

You will get minor rubbing but not so bad that you'd have to get spacers right away.

The 285 Toyo's on stock Rubi wheels is my set up and they work fine except for alittle rubbing at full turn. I just don't crank the wheel and other than that have had no problems. I really like the width also, not quite as extreme as the larger tires, but then most of my miles are street anyway and if I get a little better mileage, then I'm all for it. I did have to buy spacers last week because I bought and installed the clayton arms. The rear ones are slightly thicker (much) that the stock ones and now will rub without the spacers...... IMO If you care about re centering the rear wheel in the opening after the lift, you should research which arm you will be buying and see if the entire set up is compatible.
