I have this setup and the people who running it like me are right. Its not that bad as you would think. Its fine driving around the city and stuff but the highway kinda sucks. 6th gear is useless. Just do the 35's you wont regret it! the look is a huge difference, it'll motivate you to just do more to your jeep! Also look at at this way the 3.21's are bigger therefore much stronger to tug your jeep around. JK's are dogs to begin with so...

So what would the difference in price be for getting a new carrier vs. just getting new gears?

Let's say.....

price for someone to regear to 5.13 from 3.21

Price for someone to regear to 5.13 from 3.73 or 4.10

I've got the 3.21's and am interested about how much more regearing is going to cost. I want to do it all in one foul swoop.

My understanding is that you can either replace the carriers or use thick gears. Either way it will cost you about 125-150 more for the regear over a Jeep with 3.73 or higher. Best option though is to add lockers when regearing and you would not need new carriers.

yes, its a must. Unless you want to run without a front driveshaft until you get the front done.

I run 35's and 3.21's. I ordered my Jeep with 3.73's but the dealership fucked that up so...yeah...they are assholes.
I have had the 35's on for about 1.5 years now and it's liveable but not ideal. I am saving for the almighty 5.13's.

I believe David at Northridge can get them for you and send them with you're gears. You can also pick one up at the dealer, it should only be about $60.00. Or while you're in there you might as well put in a Detroit Truetrac.

It will be the most miserable driving experience you have ever had! When I had that setup I couldn't use 6th at ALL and only use 5th on the highway straights... a hill meant I was going back to 4th or getting run over! I went with 4.88's and have been very happy!

My only beef is, I don't want a locker for the dana 30. I need to at least have a dana 44 before I would think about dropping cash into a locker for the front. It seems like a waste for the D30. A D60 and locker is in order for the rear, just wanted a crutch for the front until I save up for a front D44 or D60. Under a $200 difference is do-able I think.
