I run 33's with 3.21's and a pentastar with no problems off or on road, I probably wouldn't get 35's without a regear, but I don't think it would be unbearable

Now I have 4.56's and its a dream to drive compared to 3.21's, even when I had the small 28" tires that it came with.

If you offroad, don't even consider 35's unless you are going to regear. Even if you have a pentistar, it wont make up for having no crawl ratio. The engine can only run at so low of an RPM before it stalls.
Thats hard to imagne. I run Rubi 32s now and im fine- getting 22mpg n 6th at 67mph on flat texas freeways. My problem is they just arnt agressive enough for this mud/clay.

if he has a pentastar..... 3.21's will be fine on the trail with 35's

Im in GA, my club travels to AL mountains to wheel and north georgia.
I have a 2012 JKU Auto with 3.21's and have almost too much power in 4 low when navigating obstacles.....
The 2012+ automatic transmission guys in my club have all discovered we have to use both feet (gas/brake) to navigate rock gardens efficiently with out jumping rocks and tearing crap up.

Id say go 35's if your 2012 and up...... if not.(i had a 2011 once) go to 33's or re-gear with 35's.

33" super swampers. No torque loss issues and better mud performance.

35" with a 3.21 gear will suck in a 07 to 11 JK with a 6 sp. Especially in Texas mud. Makes it easier to break something. Hard on the clutch. I wouldn't even bother with 33" I'd wait till I regeared and go 35". I'm aq newbie and I don't have my Jeep yet but if you ask any one who has done it all they will tell you basically the same thing I'm telling you. If you read the sticky on gearing and tires it spells it out pretty good. I know it is frustrating when people with 12-13 are answering or other not reading the question before answering. If your money is tight I wouldn't lift a jeep as the problems that can come up are a big pain. New drive shaft shocks etc... Transfer case problems. Unless you have money to burn I'd stay low. If you have lots of money then spend the $2000 necessary to switch everything properly. Its better to be out there in the mud than broken at home!

BTW: The stock tires a Rubi comes with arent really 32's. Moving to true 33's is a bigger jump than you might think. I know my 33's (Which are on the larger side of a 33) dwarf stock rubi BFG's.

I still say you will hate driving your Jeep with 33 or 35's with 3.21's. I know I did even when I was on flat lands. Driving in parking lots even required slipping the clutch way more than should be needed.
