3.6L auto trnas shift point mod?
Hi folks,
we got a 2 door 3.6L Rubicon with automatic trans, it's pretty stock except a small lift and bigger tires. The use of this Wrangelr is mostly in sand, climbing dunes, etc. and not rockcrawling.
The only small issue that I would like to improve is the shifting poitn logic. WHile I'm climbing, in "manual mode" the trans, I'm start to downshifting the gears because I need to keep in high RPM the engine to avoid get stuck at the middle of the dune or just to kep the engine in the peak torque RPM rnage.
Problem is that the RPM's start to dropp (naturally) as I'm climbing but when it downshift fianally, sometimes it would be too late and won't have the peak torque when needed...thus will get stuck at the middle of the dune or almost reaching the edge of the dune.
There is any (Predator, Trinity, etc) hand held tuner that can be re tuend the shift point logic of these transmisions?
Thanks for any input!

Diego i dont think they have a tuner just yet, i have the same use for the jeep here in south az. I found that the "strong" gear on my 12 sport auto with 3.73 gears and rubi wheels and tires is second gear. If i dont have to much space to get a good running start ill start with 2nd and as the jeep gets up on speed i shift to 3rd and that seemed to work. Im thinking of buying a cold air intake and tb spacer just to get a quicker response from the engine. Ive only had a chance to go once to the sand dunes, our sandune season starts at the beginning of oct. hope this helped, if u want to see vids just type in desierto de altar in youtube.
x2, there isn't a programmer/turner available for the '12s. How big of a tire are you running? 33s? Have you purchased an AEV Procal yet. This will allow you to adjust your tire size, thus calibrating your speedometer and help bring back the stock shift points that may have been thrown off by running larger than stock tires. Other then that you can also consider regearing to give your that needed grunt/torque...
