Question 3.73s & auto tranny, 33s possible?

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum but not entirely new to the Wrangler.

I had an '87 with the 4.2 straight six, five speed.

Anyways, I did some searching here but still not sure what to do...

I bought my Deep Water Blue X last september as a base model with the 16" steelies & the awfully tiny 225 75 16s.

I'd like to swap on some 17" aftermarket wheels along with some 33s...

I know that I'd have to regear eventually but can I just install the 33s for now?

Any input will be much apperciated

You should be fine. I am running 35's on 3.73 until I get the money to re-gear.

32's come stock with 3.73 off the dealer floor, so 33's are very doable.

Yeah I'm running 35's with an auto. and 3.73's and it's not bad at all. 33's would probably be just about the same as the stock tires, I'd go ahead and do it for sure you won't be disappointed I think!

Until you regear, you should look into getting a Superchips Flashpaq. This will help a bit in the power department and give the ability to change your tire size setting to get your odometer/speedometer up to specs....I ran 33s on my unlimited over 1.5years B4 I regeared...It will be a little bearable especially with the SuperChips FP

I have that set up. Works good but I do not run my overdrive until about 65 or 70.

they're awesome you can run OD all the time and get decent mileage, the Superchips helps with the lagging skinny pedal feeling and provides that little bit of oommpphhh.

Thanks for all the responses fellas!

I'm going to to this! I just wanted to get some firsthand opinons.

When I got my Jeep, I didn't want the factory 32s anyway.

Since this is my daily driver, I'll probably stick with the 33s for awhile.

The Superchips is a must have, I know.

BTW, I've already got the Airaid CAI on, it was my first mod!

Also, I'm gonna get the Teraflex leveling kit, not a bad idea, eh?
