Default 3/8 vs. 1/2 torque wrench w/ same specs?

Hey all, I've read the threads I found in the search function but this isn't covered. A local store has a 3/8 and 1/2 torque wrench on sale for $68 and $74. The 3/8 is shorter and looks easier to handle under the JK and the 1/2 is longer and thicker. Now I've read to go with the 1/2 as it handles more torque but... each package says that the wrenches are both good from 30-250 ftlb...

So my first inclination is to just go with the 1/2 but what do you think? I won't be using either for major jobs just checking torque after wheeling and changing/ rotating wheels.

Get the 1/2". The longer handle will give you a lot more leverage when torqueing suspension bolts.

Never heard of a 3/8" drive torque wrench that would go to 250 ft/lbs.

Are you sure it wasn't in/lbs on the 3/8" torque wrench?
If it did really say ft/lbs, it had to be a misprint.

No seriously I read both packages. They have the same specs printed. Thanks for the help guys. I'm headed down to crappy tore now to pick the 1/2 one up!

If both wrenches are there, read the actual scale on the 3/8" torque wrench. See what it is rated in.

Just curious because I've never seen a 3/8" drive that would go to 250 ft/lbs.

If you can get 250 foot-pounds out of a 3/8" drive torque wrench, please let me know which NFL team you play for. Either that of you shuck oysters for a living.

there is such a thing as to much torque. you can overtighten and do just as much damage as undertighting (mabye more). this is especially true with your lug nuts and the rotors warping. but hey it is your jeep so do what ever you want. thats just my view on the impact as your torque wrench.
