Default 3.8l

So we all know the powerhouse that is the 3.8 and all the mods that are available CAI, exhaust, and chips but did anyone try to put a thiner head gasket on in place of the stock one for more compression?

I am sure this would be at least a noticeable mod

What do you fellas think?

Yeah thats true,
My first car was a cavilier and the radaitor leaked and my sister blew the head gasket when she borrowed it, it got hot enough to warp the head and I got it milled down, I figure if that little engine could handle it mabey the 3.8 can? On a side note with the head milled down it would go 20mph with out you foot on the pedal

i have seen a few threads started about the heads on here and none of them went anywhere, dont know why. every chevy guy and old vw hotrodder i know will always say the heads are the best investment for performance. guess the 3.8 wasnt meant to be modded, cost vs gain just not worth it

Any motor can be successfully modded I just think the JK's motor has not been in anything that you would want to mod for long enough. Right now:

If you have alot of money you get a Hemi
If you have a little less you get a supercharger
Then there are the rest of us.

Once our motors start wearing out the aftermarket will respond with some good stuff. If you are going to replace or rebuild it; it will not cost much more to get some higher performance goodies in there. I just don't think there are enough JK's out there with worn engines to allow the artermarket to recoup the cost of R&D yet.

Just look at the old straight 6 and how long it took aftermarket camshafts stroker crankshafts etc to come out. It has been out forever and there is some great stuff out there like the 4.7liter long block etc. And remember way back when the straight 6 was just a parts bin motor that was kind of an afterthought just like the 3.8 today.
